It's Awards Time

I received a number of awards this week. Thank you to C. Lee McKenzie for thinking of me for The Booker Award and The Fabulous Blog Ribbon. Thanks also to Laura Sassi for passing along the Kreativ Blogger Award. You've made me smile (and given me something to blog about this week - I was totally blank.)

To receive The Booker Award the blog must be at least 50% about books (reading or writing.) And you must list your five favorite books.

My Five Favorite Books:

Villette by Charlotte Bronte
The Book Thief by Mark Zusak
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton
A Patch of Blue by Elizabeth Kata

The Fabulous Blog Ribbon is also about fives.

Five Fabulous Moments:

Becoming a wife
Becoming a mother (twice)
Watching my daughters graduate from college (with honors) after homeschooling them K-12
Celebrating with my husband our 25th wedding anniversary.
That magical moment when a story takes on a life of its own.

Five Things I Love:

Spending time with my family
Sunny Days
Laughing till it hurts
Game Night
Chocolate

Five Things I Dislike:

Traffic
Making Dinner
Getting Up Early
Form Rejections
Cleaning house when I'd rather be writing

For the Kreativ Blogger Award, I'm supposed to list seven random things about myself, but I think you've heard enough about me for one post.

These are the five people who I want to share these awards with:

Victoria Lindstrom
Ruth Donnelly
Patricia T.
Theresa Milstein
Anne E. Johnson

  1. Congrats on all the awards, and thanks for thinking of me! My blog is booked through the end of October, so I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to respond to each award as required, but I appreciate the mention in any case. :)

    1. No worries, Anne. It's all in fun. Address them if you'd like, but if not just enjoy the fact that you were thought of fondly today =)

    1. Oh, you're missing out on some great ones!

And yes, figuring out what to make for dinner is the worst.

  10. Congratulations, Ruth. No one deserves these more. I'm with you on all your book and most of your like/dislike choices, except for the chocolate, which I could love or leave. Now I have to go find out what 'Game Night' is.

    1. Thank you, Mirka. Game night for me is getting together once a month with my sisters, daughters, and nieces, and playing games (like Dicecapades, Buzz Word, Catch Phrase)until we're all too tired and laughing so hard that we can hardly play anymore.

  12. Congrats! I'd like to get the Booker one, because I'll probably never win the other one of the same name. (If you don't know, it's a massive literary prize in the UK!)

  14. Congrats to you, Ruth, for all the awards, especially the Booker award. And kudos to you homeschooling your kids from K through 12! Wow! I bet you were beaming when they graduated college with honors!

    1. I was beaming! Ya know, you run into all kinds of critics when you homeschool - people who tell you your kids are going to be "backward" and that you're going to "ruin" them. So it was very rewarding when my girls would call me between classes in college to tell me about how their professors were impressed with them (the quality of work they turned in, their respectfulness in class) and always wanted to know where they had gone to high school!

  15. My library has all 5 of your favorites (yay!) and my stack just got 5 books taller.

Thanks for visiting my daughter's blog!

  20. Congrats on all the well-deserved awards! Loved reading your lists. I also dislike making dinner and cleaning house when I'd rather be writing... which may be why we're having raisin bran for dinner and I've got dog hair collecting under my couch :)

    1. I finally just gave in and vacuumed up the ankle-deep dog hair. Sadly, I don't think I can get away with serving raisin bran for dinner. Although it sounds good to me ;)

  23. Congrats on the awards, Ruth! Villette is a strong book for me, too. I think I once wanted to be somewhat like Lucy Snowe. (Maybe I still do.)

  24. I loved The God of Small Things. I've been meaning to get to my copy of The Book Thief--I hear rave reviews about it.
